It’s that time of year when many of us are thinking about a New Year ‘detox’ – perhaps we’ve indulged a bit over the last month and we’re looking to get some balance back into our lives, or just fancy a bit of a health boost. Whatever the reason, January can be a good time of year to set some healthy intentions for the year. The word ‘detox’ is quite misleading – in fact, our bodies naturally do a brilliant job of detoxifying what we intentionally or unintentionally put into it – including drugs, alcohol, medication and other chemicals. But, if you do want to give your body a bit of assistance to optimise detoxification processes, here are some of our favourite detox products for January (and beyond!):
- Milk thistle
The herb milk thistle is commonly associated with alcohol detoxification. Indeed, it does support liver health and digestive function, and has a long history of traditional use. It can be taken as a tincture or capsule – we love Vogel’s tincture and Terranova’s Milk Thistle capsules, with fresh freeze dried milk thistle.
- Dandelion Root
Dandelion root is a natural diuretic that may be beneficial to liver function. Again, this is available in tincture form, and it also makes a lovely tea (we love Clipper’s organic tea bags).
This is one of our absolute favourite all-rounders. A super, organic blend of greens, digestive aids, bacterial cultures, plant juices, sea vegetables and algaes. Just mix in with water first thing in the morning for a nutritional boost.
- Cleavers
Also known as ‘sticky willy’, you will probably have seen this growing in abundance in hedgerows and other green spaces. It has a long history of traditional use as a detoxification aid, thought to maintain healthy lymphatic flow. We love Viridian’s tincture, which is 100% organic, with no added nasties.
- Terranova’s Life Drink
